Mathematics is among the most fascinating of all intellectual disciplines, the purest of all art forms. The study of mathematics is not only existing but important: mathematicians have an opportunity to make a lasting contribution to society by helping to solve problems in such diverse fields as medicine, management, economics, computer sciences, physics, psychology, engineering, social science astronomy etc. Keeping in view role the department of mathematics can play, CUI Abbottabad Campus established a department of Mathematics right from the inception campus in September 2001. The Department of Mathematics is offering more than 80 courses in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer sciences, Management sciences, Earth sciences, Pharmacy, Economics and Environmental Sciences at undergraduate and graduate levels in the most professional manner. Our faculty participated in different faculty development workshops organized by various educational institutions in Pakistan. The faculty is also involved in research with the collaboration of researchers working in other disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer sciences etc. Moreover, strong research groups are working in fluid mechanics, relativity and algebra. The department of mathematics has the honour of being the platform for producing more than 140 research papers in 12 years. The department has launched MS and PhD Program in Mathematics since fall 2004. This department has 33 regular faculty members including 15 PhDs.
Mission Statement
As part of a large public research university, the mission of the department is to teach useful, interesting and relevant mathematics, and to extend the subject through research. We have active research groups in Algebra, Analysis and Applied Mathematics.
