THE EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
BFPLA Process
The "Translating Postpartum Family Planning Strategy into Action in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan" project, conducted from March to November 2023, employed a well-defined process in the region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This project aimed to address issues related to family planning, specifically in the postpartum period. The process involved the following key steps:
i. Stakeholder Involvement: The project initiated by engaging key stakeholders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including policymakers, healthcare providers, and other relevant individuals, who have decision-making authority and influence over family planning strategies.
ii. Goal Determination: The stakeholders collectively identified the goals and objectives for the implementation of the postpartum family planning strategy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan considering the unique challenges and needs of the region.
iii. Identifying Impediments: The project sought to identify Impediments, obstacles, and challenges that hindered the effective implementation of postpartum family planning within the region.
iv. Behavior Requirements: The key behaviors required of individuals at various levels of the healthcare system and the community were identified to overcome the identified impediments and successfully implement the family planning strategy.
v. Primary Research: A primary research phase was conducted, involving Focused Group Discussions and Key Informant interviews to get insights from healthcare providers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and motivations associated with implementing the required behaviors.
vi. Recommendations and Solutions: Following the research phase, the original group of stakeholders reconvened to validate the research findings and collaborate on the development of recommendations and solutions to effectively translate the postpartum family planning strategy into action.
Throughout this process, the project fostered a collaborative approach that actively engaged the local stakeholders, considering the specific needs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The project aimed to bridge the gap between strategy and implementation in postpartum family planning in the region. This initiative was a crucial step towards improving family planning services and reproductive health in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
The Proposed Goal
Improved access and informed choice of Married Women of Reproductive Age (MWRA) to quality PPFP counselling and services through integration of MNCH and FP in both public and private HFs and community level through enhancing awareness with sustained financing in KP.
